PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an Ni plated steel sheet for a battery can which has excellent corrosion resistance, battery properties and slidability. SOLUTION: In the method for producing a plated steel sheet for a battery can, the face to be the outer face of a can is successively subjected to Ni plating having a coating weight of≥9 g/m<SP>2</SP>and Ni-P alloy plating having a coating weight of≥1 g/m<SP>2</SP>and a P content of 3 to 8%, and thereafter, heat treatment is performed at 810 to 880°C for a soaking time of 10 to 60 s by continuous annealing. Further, the face to be the inner face of the can is desirably subjected to either or both of Ni plating having a coating weight of≥1 g/m<SP>2</SP>and Ni-P alloy plating having a coating weight of≥1 g/m<SP>2</SP>and a P content of 3 to 8%.
