A laminated imitation leather comprises a first ply of substantially impervious material e.g. of polyurethane and a second ply of pervious material e.g. of synthetic textile fleece bonded to the first, in which the first ply has perforation holes which are formed therein after bonding, the size of said holes being so small that they are substantially impervious to liquid water but pervious to water vapour, the number of said holes per unit area being chosen so that said first ply has a perviousness to water vapour of at least one milligram per square centimetre per hour, and said holes being further characterized in that they are formed by removal from the first ply of an amount of material substantially corresponding to their volume. The perforations are formed by the action of a beam of radiant energy e.g. of electrons. In a preferred embodiment, the first ply has a surface provided with a conductive coating e.g. by vapour deposition prior to perforating, the coated surface being bonded to the second ply. |
