1,137,743. Carbon black and carbon bodies. CLEVITE CORP. 23 March, 1966 [26 March. 1965], No. 12692/66. Heading C1A. [Also in Division H1] A hydrocarbon fuel e.g. heavy petroleum oil is mixed with compounds of iron, nickel or cobalt and sprayed under pressure in vapour form or otherwise injected into a combustion chamber at 1300 to 1500‹ F. Combustion takes place, raising the temperature to 2000‹ to 3000‹ F., and carbon black intimately associated with the metal additives results. The metal compounds are preferably oxygen or sulphur compounds. The carbon black containing metal is formed into a slurry with water and a binder e.g. P.T.F.E., mixed thoroughly, dried, pressed and sintered in a nitrogen atmosphere to form an electrode. |
