[Also in Division C3] A method of producing a stable preparation containing cytochrome c comprises the step of gelating a mixture of gelatin and an aqueous solution of cytochrome c and drying the resulting gel while maintaining a colloidal gel state. An aqueous mixture of cytochrome c and gelatin may be poured into an oil to form globules which may be dried in air or under reduced piessure or by means of a dehydrating solvent such as acetone or alcohol; alternatively the aqueous mixture may be poured into a mould, left to gel, dried and crushed. The product may be made into tablets with an excipient, or given an enteric coating, or made into suppositories with hardened oil, cacao butter or polyethylene glycol. The cytochrome c may be from animal sources or yeast. |
