The lithographic duplicating machine of Specification 1,152,761 is provided with an automatic etcher unit whereby, before the inking and dampening systems are brought into operation, the non-printing surfaces of the master on the master cylinder 14 are coated with an ink-repellent solution. For this purpose an etcher unit 66, Fig. 3, is removably mounted between the side walls of the machine. A readily removable etch applicator roller 86 is urged by springs 84 into contact with a metering roller 78. The latter roller is directly driven by a suitable motor unit which also drives, through gearing, the roller 86 in a direction opposite that of the cylinder 14. The etcher unit is operated through an operator bar 92 by a solenoid connected in the automatic control circuit of the machine. The pressure and speed of the roller 86 is adjustable. |
