In the elimination of dust and fumes from cupolas, the temp. of the combustion gases is lowered as they rise up the cupola by a current of air drawn through the open throat; the air flow is strong enough to stop the ascent of the gases and the resulting mixt. passes through a duct in the cupola wall below the throat to a filtration unit, and the purified gas-air mixt. is then discharged to atmos. The flow of air down the cupola throat is pref. greater than the flow of the combustion gases, and the pref. plant includes a suction fan drawing air through the duct. There is no need to use any device to close the throat and only a small amt. of water is required in the scrubber as the gases are primarily cooled by the flow of air. |
