PURPOSE:To grind a roller or the like with a desired diameter automatically by pressing a rotating grindstone on the surface of a work while in rotation so as to control the relatively reciprocating movement speed of the work in the axial direction by means of the difference between the diameter of the work and a preset value. CONSTITUTION:The axis of a work A such as a roller or drum, etc. is supported on the rotating support stand 3 on a base mount 1, and the work A is driven to rotate around its axis. A grindstone 13 driven to rotate is pressed to the surface of the work A at a predetermined pressure, and the rotating support stand 3 is moved in reciprocation by a feed unit in the axial direction of the work A for a grinding process. A detector 29 is provided at the grinding process position of the grindstone 13, and the diameter of the work A is continuously measured and detected by a gap detector 31. When the detected diameter approaches the desired preset value, the reciprocating movement speed is increased, and when the preset value is reached, the grindstone is stopped at one end of the work. |
