The veneer material comprises a layer of lateral fibres laid over a veneer layer of straight fibres, the lateral fibres being corrugated fibres, or alternating in twisting directions to give a twisted or angled lying arrangement, and the veneer of straight fibres is of natural wood or synthetic fibres. The base material is a felting or a plastics film, such as of polyethylene.
