PURPOSE:To obtain the satisfactory fault information for a controller capable of saving the operating information on a peripheral device as the fault information at occurrence of a fault by saving the interface information between the higher or lower rank devices. CONSTITUTION:A microprocessor 12 uses a control storage 14 for control of a magnetic tape and also for saving the fault information on a magnetic tape controller 1. In a normal operation state, the storage 14 is used with the sequential superscriptions. If the microprocessor 12 detects a fault of the controller 1, the information on the control table contained in the storage 14, the transfer of instructions and statuses performed between the controller 1 and a host device 2 at occurrence of a fault, the transfer of instructions and statuses carried out between the controller 1 and a record/reproduction mechanism 3, a hardware register are written into a saving storage area together with other information necessary for analysis of the fault. So that the superscription of information is prevented at occurrence of the fault. As a result, the satisfactory fault information can be obtained for a peripheral controller. |
