PURPOSE:To produce an electrode having a significant voltage reducing effect and a long service life by supporting a catalytic material on a substrate obtd. by sintering long fibers of a valve metal or an alloy of such metals. CONSTITUTION:A valve metal such as Ti, Ta, Zr, Nb, W or Mo or an alloy of such metals is used as an electrode material in the form of long fibers of a very small diameter. These fibers are sintered to form a substrate having a plate shape, etc., and a catalytic material such as a Pt family metal, e.g. Pt or Pd or the oxide thereof is supported on the surface of the substrate to produce an electrode for electrochemical use. This electrode has high strength, improved elasticity and high uniformity of the structure because the substrate is composed of many long fibers. An electrochemical device is assembled by adhering the electrode to a solid electrolyte. |
