1,187,245. Modified Ziegler-Natta type catalysts. CHEMISCHE WERKE HœLS A.G. 21 July, 1967 [22 July, 1966], No. 33547/67. Heading C3P. Polymers of olefines of the formula where R is a C 1 to C 8 aliphatic radical, a cyclic radical, or an aromatic radical are made by polymerizing one or more olefines in the presence of (a) methyl or ethyl aluminium sesquichloride or dichloride, (b) a compound of a heavy metal of groups IV A , V A or VI of the Mendeleeff Periodic System, and (c) an activating agent of the formula wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> represent an H atom, an alkyl, cycloalkyl, or an aryl radical and m is 2 or 3. The olefine may be propene, butene-1, pentane-1, hexene-1, 3-methylbutene-1, 4-methylpentene-1, 5-methylhexene-1, styrene, or vinylcyclohexane. Ethylene may be used as a comonomer. The preferred (b) compound is 3TiCl 3 .AlCl 3 . The preferred (c) compounds are 2-methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, phenyl, nheptyl, pentadecyl, or vinyl-#<SP>2</SP>-oxazoline. In the examples, isotaxy values of the polymers in ether are given. |
