<p>Intimate particle/fluid contact is by contacting counter-currently in a plurality of stages in a first column (I), particles being fluidized without appreciable flow-loss; intermittently reversing fluid flow in (I) to transfer particles to next stage in (I) in a direction opposite that of normal fluid flow; transferring particles from (I) to a second column (II) where all previous actions in (I) are repeated; returning particles to (I). The direction of particle movement in either column is opposite to the settling direction of the solid particles in the fluid.</p> |
