PURPOSE:To obtain surface treatment of water absorbing resin effective for providing a water absorbing agent having water absorbing rate under high pressure, water passage under pressure and water retention under pressure. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. carboxyl group-containing water absorbing resin powder is blended with 0.01-30 pts.wt. polyhydric alcohol, 0-50 pts.wt. water and 0-60 pts.wt. hydrophilic organic solvent and heat-treated at 90-250 deg.C until reaction is completed. The following formula 30<=(100+R)Q/P<=80 wherein P is water absorption magnification of the water absorbing resin powder, Q is water absorption magnification of water absorbing resin subjected to surface treatment, R is value of pts.wt. of polyhydric alcohol based on 100 pts.wt. water absorbing resin powder. The prepared water absorbing agent is useful for coagulating agent of sludge, sweating inhibitor of building material, horticultural and agricultural water retaining agent, drying promoter, etc., besides one constituent material of sanitary article. |
