The modulator includes an optical guide (2) made of a semiconductor substrate (3) with an angled output surface covered by antireflective coating. Three electrodes are placed opposite the guide and connected to an electric field generator (4). An input signal (T) is applied to the generator which in turn generates a variable electric field in the electrodes. An optical link which uses the modulator includes a light source (50) coupled to the modulator (52) and an optical fibre (54). A receiver (56) collects the output wave from the fibre and generates an output signal (S).
