<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To modify surface condition of a protective layer formed on an image on a recording paper and to thereby provide glossiness, mat tone and silky tone. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus is equipped with conveying means 2, 3 and 4 for conveying a recording paper 1 in a specified direction, a thermal transfer sheet running means 6 and 7 for running a thermal transfer sheet 5 in which a dye layer for forming the image on the surface of the recording paper 1 and a protective material layer for protecting the image are formed by being arranged in the longitudinal direction of a substrate sheet, modified sheet moving means 9 and 10 for moving a surface nature modifying sheet 8 in which an opening part for printing so that the thermal transfer sheet 5 is brought into direct contact with the surface of the recording paper 1 and a surface nature modifying part for modifying the surface condition of the protective layer for protecting the image formed on the recording paper 1 are formed by being arranged in the longitudinal direction of the substrate sheet, and a thermal head 11 for thermally transferring the dye layer and the protective material layer successively on the recording paper 1 by applying a thermal energy under a condition that the thermal transfer sheet 5 or the surface nature modifying sheet 8 are opposed to the surface of the recording paper 1 and thereby modifying the surface condition of the protective layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
