PURPOSE:To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of using an inexpensive switching element with a low rated current and certainly lighting a plurality of discharge lamps. CONSTITUTION:A first resonance circuit 9 resonated at a first frequency is connected to a first discharge lamp 2, a second resonance circuit 13 resonated at a second frequency is connected to a second discharge lamp 3. A power source device 5 outputs the second resonance frequency, the lighting of the discharge lamp 3 is detected by a lamp voltage detecting circuit 15 and a lighting detecting circuit 17, and the oscillating frequency of the power source device 5 is reduced to the first resonance frequency by a frequency control circuit to light the first discharge lamp 2. Thereafter, the discharge lamps 2, 3 are lighted at a third oscillating frequency in which their resonance voltages are equal to each other. |
