[Also in Division F1] A rotary drive, e.g. for winding drums, sprockets or pin gears, comprises a toothed driving wheel 3 permanently in mesh with screws 1 and 2 having pistons at both ends, pressure medium being applied to one piston, e.g. the upper piston of screw 1, to move its screw linearly to rotate wheel 3, while, at the same time, the second screw is rotated by an hydraulic motor 15 acting through a rack 17 and pinion 19 splined at 21 to the screw, so that the second screw does not drive wheel 3 but moves in the same direction as the first screw. At the end of the stroke, the screw movements are reversed, so that continuous rotation of wheel 3 is obtained, the first screw being rotated whilst the lower piston of the second is subjected to pressure medium to perform a driving stroke. The drive may be automatically controlled, so that under low load drive is effected only by rotating the screws, and under high load the above operation takes place. The rotated idling screw is timed to complete its stroke before the pressure-actuated working screw. If the pressure supply is discontinued with the screws in an intermediate position, one of the screws is automatically moved to an end position. |
