Excellent mechanical properties (hardners, scratch resistance, elasticity, adherence to metal) corrosion resistance and compatibility with pigments are obtained in coatings prepared by depositing on an electrical conductor compositions containing a soluble or dispersible condensation product, present at least partly as a water-soluble carboxylic-acid salt and based on (a) 40-75% wt. polyfunctional aminoalcohol with tertiary N atoms, optionally containing epoxy groups; (b) 10-30% wt. of at least one 7-24C mono-COOH acid and at least one addition product, polycondensate or polymer with at least 2COOH; (c) 5-40% wt. phenoplast or aminoplast resin optionally etherified with an alcohol.
