[Also in Division B8] A method of making a blank for a packaging container comprises folding back an unbonded edge zone 7a of a plastics coating 3 bonded to one surface of a strip 1 of fibrous packaging material, e.g. cardboard 1 coated with a plastics layer 3, the coating 3 extending to the edge of the strip and being bonded to a substantial area of the strip but not along a preselected edge zone thereof, removing a selected area of the exposed fibrous material and opening out the coating 3 to its original extended position. The plastics coating is bonded to the fibrous material by rollers 4 and 5, non-adherence of the edge zones being effected either by use of an anti-adhesive material or by the presence of recesses 6a and 6b in the surface of roller 5. The edges may be folded back by suction or fixed guide bars and the cutting device comprises a rotary cutting tool 20, 30 associated with roller 17, different parts 21, 22, 23, 31, 32 of the cutting edge being in different planes for selectively cutting areas of the backing material exposed by the folding back of the edge zone of the plastics material. |
