PURPOSE:To enable optimum transfer bias voltage to be applied according to the breadth of recording paper. CONSTITUTION:The conductive layer 13 of a transfer roller 7 comprising an elastic member having characteristics of at least conductivity is divided into a plurality of electrically independent areas in an axial direction. In addition, conductive blades 15 are caused to come in contact with respective areas, thereby applying transfer bias voltage to the conductive layer 13 and performing the control of applicable voltage magnitude selectively according to the breadth of recording paper. According to this construction, a trouble such as transfer material contamination and carrier collapse can be easily prevented. |
