The invention relates to a mechanically functioning book support for loose-leaf publications. The purpose of the invention is to allow a loose-leaf publication to be read at any opened out position, whether at the front, in the centre or at the back, at an angle as if the loose-leaf publication were opened out precisely in the centre. The underlying object of the invention is to avoid continuously necessary head movement and poor body posture when reading a loose-leaf publication. This object is achieved in that the book back holding plate (3) is automatically counterbalanced about its longitudinal axis by means of springs (6 and 7), depending on the imbalance of the number of sheets corresponding to the page at which it is open. Additionally, the angle of inclination between the book back holding plate (3) and the baseplate (11) can be varied. The back of the loose-leaf publication is fastened to the book back holding plate (3) by retaining angles so that the loose-leaf publication does not slip when pages are turned. Two extending arms (20 and 21) give the reading aid a firm standing base. <IMAGE>
