PURPOSE:To prevent large impact noise or vibrations from being produced at a terminal stop point by employing a rotary damper capable of automatic control of damping forces to balance a rotary torque at the time of terminal stop of a freely falling rotary object. CONSTITUTION:A casing 41 has a hollow chamber having spline grooves 43, with a force receiving rotor 44 held rotatably in both normal and reverse directions in the hollow chamber. A sliding member 8, with its circumferential surface provided with raised spline ridges 81 to be engaged with the spline grooves 43 on the casing 41, is capable of sliding in the longitudinal direction. And a female screw portion 82 in the central part is engaged with a male screw 46 of a force receiving rotor 44. When a cap 1 is rotated, the force receiving rotor 44 is also rotated via a hinge pin 6. At this time, since the female screw 82 is engaged with the casing 41 by means of the raised spline ridges 81, the sliding member 8 moves and compresses O-rings 9 to produce rotary frictional forces. As the rotary angle of the cap 1 increases, the frictional forces increase, and also brake torques against the force receiving rotor 44 increase. |
