<p>This invention is a steerable catheter including a handle (2) and a catheter tube (44), the tip (64) of which may be selectively curved by the operator to assume a preprogrammed curved shape in three dimensions. A single elongated, substantially flat planar shim (66) is mounted within the tip of the catheter tube. The shim has at least one transverse or lateral twist (82) which causes the tip of the catheter tube to assume a curvature in more than one plane when the catheter is operated by manipulation of the remotely positioned handle.</p> |
