The present invention relates to a method for measuring, in a given time interval and according to the reaction O-16(n,p)N-16, the counting speed of a detector of gamma -radiation that is emitted by an N-16 isotope from a heat carrier and that originates in the active zone of the reactor. This method also comprises measuring the thermal energy by thermo-technical means and by analysing the heat balance in the main circulation circuits. This method further comprises determining the Ot<i> ratio between the thermal energy and the counting speed of the detector of gamma -radiation emitted by an N-16 isotope, wherein a change in the global content of U-235, Pu-239 and Pu-241 isotopes may be estimated as a function of a change in a given time interval of said Ot<i> ratio.
