1,126,126. Polyamide - polyester filaments. TEIJIN Ltd. 29 July, 1966 [31 July, 1965; 2 Aug., 1965], No. 34257/66. Heading B5B. A mixture of 90-55% polycaprolactam and 10-45% of a fibre-forming polyester composed of at least 90 mole per cent ethylene terephthalate is melt-blended and spun at a temperature whose limits are (a) that temperature which is higher than 20‹ C. below the m.p. of the polyester, but not below 235‹ C., and (b) that temperature expressed by where p is the weight per cent of the polyester in the mixture, # N is the I.V. of the polycaprolactam measured at 35‹ C. in m-cresol, and # p is the I.V. of the polyester measured at 35‹ C. in o-chlorophenol. Pure polyethyleneterephthalate and an ethylene terephthalate/isophthalate copolymer are specified. #N may be 0À9-1À5; #p may be 0À35-0À95, and the value (# N -# p ) may be 0À3-0À7. The polyester has a crystallinity preferably less than 10%, or in the range 25-45%; a higher crystallinity may be reduced by heat treating the polymer blend or polyester alone above the spinning temperature before spinning. The spun filaments may be drawn and heat-set. |
