2.1 It is intended to achieve a high quality of the motion vectors with little computing effort. In this connection, it is intended to access as rapidly as possible those image blocks which exhibit movement and are particularly suitable for determining accurate motion vectors. In addition, it is intended to specify a comparison method which allows a particularly rapid and accurate determination of motion vectors without extensive calculation. 2.2 In an image block memory, all image blocks which exhibit a change compared with the previous frame are provided with a motion marker. In addition, all the images blocks which have sharp contours in the horizontal and vertical direction are provided with a structure marker. When motion vectors are determined, initially only those image blocks are processed which exhibit a motion marker and a structure marker. It is only after that that the other image blocks only exhibiting a motion marker are processed. When motion vectors are determined, hypothetical motion vectors can also be formed which are determined taking into consideration the previous motion vector of the same image block and the previously calculated motion vectors. These are used for carrying out a comparison with an image block in the previous frame, offset by the hypothetical motion vector. The difference values produced during this process are compared with one another and weighted. 2.3 The direct access to image blocks which are provided with a motion marker and a structure marker makes it possible to find those image blocks which are particularly suitable for rapidly determining an accurate motion vector. This saves computing time and results in a high quality of the motion vectors. <IMAGE> |
