发明名称 Procédé et appareil pour traiter une matière minérale ramollissable par la chaleur
摘要
A method of processing glass into filaments comprises the steps of establishing a supply of glass in a feeder, flowing streams of the material through orifices in the feeder floor and attenuating the streams, as they cool, into filaments, wherein the orifices are arranged in spaced groups and excess heat is conducted away from a region of the feeder floor between the spaced groups to assist the establishment and maintenance of uniform distribution of temperature of the glass in all the orifices and wherein the feeder floor is supported between adjacent groups or orifices within the said region from which heat is conducted to prevent sagging of the feeder. Glass is fed into a feeder having walls 46, 48 (Figs. 3 and 5, not shown), and floor 56 made of a platinum-rhodium alloy. The floor 56 comprises four prefabricated sections 61-64 containing orifices 68 through which the glass flows. The sections 61-64 are welded together along their edges, the longitudinal central join being indented upwardly 76 (Fig. 6, not shown). Along this join in the indent 76 is an oval-shaped hollow tubular support member 80 which is separated from actual contact with the feeder floor by a layer 78 of heat-resistant electrically insulating material. The support 80 is so fixed that it leaves the feeder floor visible from below whilst giving sufficient support to prevent warpage. Water is flowed through the support member 80 to conduct excess heat away from the central region. An additional transverse support member 91 is fitted at the central point of all the joins. Further cooling tubes 94 are fitted out of contact with the feeder floor down its outer edges. These also have a series of fins 96 which extend inwardly between successive or alternate rows of nozzles 66 to control the viscosity of the glass therein. Alternatively, the feeder floor may be flat and not indented along the central join or the insulating layer 78 may completely surround the support tube 80 (see Figs. 8, 9, not shown). In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 10, 11, not shown), the feeder floor comprises eight prefabricated sections there being hollow support and cooling tubes along the three longitudinal junctions, and the transverse cooling fins are attached to the two outer tubes. The glass is flowed through the orifices 68 and is attenuated and sized in a conventional way.
