C. motor is controlled by adjustment of the mark/space ratio of the switching device in its supply circuit in response to modulated sine wave signals derived from a device rotating with the motor. The pure sine wave is fed to a discriminator which produces a D. C. voltage 23a inversely proportional to frequency; this is added to the sine wave to produce the signal 22 and 23, which is then clipped at an adjustable level 24 and those portions above the line 24 are applied to a switching amplifier whose output is square pulses which power the motor. The sine wave generator is preferably a rotating magnetic disc, but may be a photo-electric device.
