1,171,919. Raising liquids by vacuum. C. VAN DER LELY N. V. Nov.30, 1966 [Dec. 6, 1965], No.53710/66. Heading F1R. In apparatus in which a container is connected to a source of vacuum in order to draw liquid into the container and in which the vacuum connection is closed by a valve actuated in dependence on the volume of liquid in the container, a second valve is disposed in series with the first, which second valve closes in the event that the first valve is prevented from closing. In one embodiment Fig.1 (not shown) the first valve is actuated by a float and the second valve is a ball float which is enclosed in the releasable connection to the vacuum source and is seatable on the end of the vacuum pipe. As shown in Fig. 3 the second .valve 43 is disposed in an auxiliary container 46 which is attached by a quick release mechanism to the main container 1. The first valve 36 is a ball float seatable on the end of pipe 39 which discharges at an angle into the container 46. The walls of the container 46 may be transparent. |
