In a brushless electric generator, having at least two bus-bar rings 64, 68, which are electrically insulated from each other and from the generator shaft 22 on which they are mounted, a plurality of heat sinks 112 each supporting at least one diode 46, 47 are insulatingly mounted on each bus-bar ring 64, 68 and circuit connections are provided between each diode and the associated bus-bar ring via a fuse 48, 49 and the bus-bar rings and heat sinks are connected to the excitation circuit of the generator. The generator field (54, Fig. 2, not shown), is supplied via the rotating rectifier circuit (31) fed from a rotating armature (32) of the main exciter which has a stationary field (30) controlled by a pilot exciter having a stationary armature (26) and rotating permanent magnet field (24). The armature of the main exciter is connected via leads 92 to the heat sinks 112 and the D.C. output from the rotating rectifier circuit is taken from the bus-bar rings 64, 68 via leads 164, 178 to terminals 102, 104 mounted in the shaft 22 which are connected via conductors 96, 98, to the field of the generator. The rotating rectifier circuit including diodes 46, 47, fuses 48, 49, resistors 53, 57 and capacitors 51, 55 are mounted within the bus-bar rings 64, 68. Each diode, which may be of the semi-conductor type, may be mounted on a single heat sink. Alternatively, the heat sinks may be made of greater arcuate length so as to support several diodes. In a further arrangement (not shown) one hub 60 supports additional bus-bar rings 64, 68 which are suitably insulated from each other and from the shaft.
