Phenolic binders for printing inks These are prepared by condensation in aqueous solution of a phenol with-per mol. of phenol-0.05-2 Mol formaldehyde and at least 0.01 mol of a polyvalent alcohol at pH >7 and elevated temperature. This is followed by reaction with 0.01 - 3 mol of an aromatic oxycarbonic or oxysulphonic acid or an aryl fatty acid at pH 7. and if necessary drying.
