[Also in Division B8] A fastener applicator for applying fasteners having hook-shaped ends to cord, tape or the like comprises a carrier 6 arranged to reciprocate along a guide 7, a loader 10 for supplying fasteners 1 in succession to said carrier, an anvil 20 at one end of said guide, a channel 25 in front of the anvil to receive said cord 2 and a retractable spring-loaded stop 26 in said channel holding the cord opposite the opening to a bowed portion of the fastener in the carrier as it approaches the anvil, the carrier engaging and retracting the stop 26 to allow the cord to enter the bowed portion whereupon a cam surface 22 on the anvil closes the bowed portion around the cord. On return of the carrier the spring-loaded stop 26 ejects the cord into the channel 25 to facilitate removal. The loader comprises a tubular body 10 accommodating a spring-loaded pusher 31 operated by a handle 34. The loader is supplied with fasteners in composite bar formation by gravity from a magazine having a spring-loaded gate. The fastener to be applied is held in position on the carrier by a spring-loaded detent 14. |
