1310668 Cutting and tearing apparatus HANS MEYER GmbH FABRIK FUR VORDRUCK-SYSTEME UND ORGANISATIONSMITTEL GROSSDRUCKEREI UND VERLAG 22 April 1971 [23 April 1970] 10761/71 Heading B4B [Also in Division B8] An apparatus for separating sheets from copying sets (i.e. sheets of writing paper interleaved with carbon paper and all glued together at one edge, the writing paper being perforated adjacent the glued edge) and simultaneously cutting- up the unwanted carbon paper comprises a carriage " A " for clamping the copying set at its edge opposite the glued edge and movable so as to bring the glued edge into engagement with a pair of gripping rolls 27 so that the latter separate the writing paper along the perforation lines while simultaneously feeding the carbon papers to a set of cutting-up rolls 28 thereby destroying the waste carbon papers. The carriage " A " includes a member 3 secured at its ends to side plate 8, Fig. 2, provided with rollers 14 adapted to run in grooves formed in side walls 17 of the apparatus. A bar 12 is also secured between the plates 8 and is attached to one end of a table plate 22, the other end of the table plate being slidable over a fixed plate 24. A clamping jaw 9 is secured to a bar 1 pivotally mounted between the plates 8, the bar being actuated by an eccentric shaft 2 and handle 10 to cause the jaw 9 to open or close in relation to the top of the bar 12. The gripping and cutting rollers 27, 28 are rotated by an electric motor 23 via gears 25, 26, 261, the cutting roll comprising a series of coacting discs 34, Fig. 7, separated by resilient spacers 33. In operation, the unstuck edge of a copying set is moved against abutment pins 11, Fig. 1, on the jaw 9 and the latter then closed by the handle 10 to clamp the edge. The carriage is then moved forwardly against the action of a band 40 loaded by rubber straps 44 until the gripping rollers seize the glued edge of the set thereby pulling the carriage until it abuts an adjustable stop 29 causing the writing paper to be severed. The carbon paper continues to be fed past the cutting discs, the scrap being directed by a curved cover-plate 20 into a container.
