1,231,270. Stabilizing azo dyes with hindered phenols. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 25 July, 1968 [31 July, 1967; 30 Oct., 1967], No. 35568/68. Heading C4A. [Also in Division G2] Azo dyes are stabilized by using a hindered phenol of one of the formulµ wherein R 1 is tertiary alkyl which may be substituted, R 2 is alkyl which may be substituted and is either straight chain with 6-18 C atoms or branched chain, R 6 and R 7 are branched chain alkyl radicals which may be substituted, R 13 is cycloalkyl which may be substituted or branched chain alkyl, R 3 , R 4 R 5 , R 8 and R 9 are alkyl or substituted alkyl, R 12 is hydroxyl, unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or alkoxy, R 10 and R 11 are hydrogen or substituted or unsubstituted alkyl and R 14 is alkylene with up to 4 carbon atoms. The azo dye may also contain a polymer to increase the dye stability and specified polymers are (i) vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer; (ii) polyvinyl butyral; (iii) polyvinyl acetate; (iv) polyvinyl chloride; (v) 4,41-isopropylidene bis-phenol/1-chloro-2,3-epoxypropane copolymer; (vi) ethylene glycol/isophthalic acid/terephthalic acid terpolymer; (vii) p-cyclobexanedicarboxylic acid/isophthalic acid/cyclohexylbismethanol terpolymer; (viii) p - cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid/2,2,4,4 - tetramethylcyclobutane - 1,3 - diol or ethyl acrylate) acrylic acid copolymer. |
