A vehicle traveling along a vehicle travel path is provided a deceleration signal which is proportional to the quantity K2/Dt2, where D is the distance the vehicle has to travel to a stopping position, t is a time reference relative to how long it takes the vehicle to travel the distance D, and K2 is an operational constant determined by system parameters. The quantity t2 is computed by generating a predetermined number progression grouping of pulses, the sum of which is equal to the quantity t2.
