Purification takes place in an activation tank on the batch principle, the aeration operation being carried out continuously and controlled as a function of time. The aeration process preferably commences as soon as filling starts, continuing until maximum level is reached and for a specified period. Between stages, sewage pref. accumulates in buffer tanks.
