1,066,263. Forming beaded rims on hollow articles. KALLE A.G. Sept. 11, 1964 [Sept. 14, 1963], No. 37302/64. Heading B6J. [Also in Division B5] During a process for forming beaded rims on hollow articles, by pressing the rim of the article against a heated beading plate, a pressurized gas is introduced into the interior of the article to prevent buckling thereof. In the embodiment shown in the Figure, the ends of an open cylinder K are heated between a grooved upper heated plate 1 and a lower grooved heated plate 2, which is vertically reciprocable to its operative positions, shown in the Figure, by a cylinder 5a and a piston driven wedge 5d. Pressurized air is introduced during the beading's step through a nozzle 7. Plate 1 is suspended from a vertically adjustable bracket 13, and is biased downwards by a spring 9 so that cylinders or articles of a length which varies from the average length of the articles of a batch may be accommodated by corresponding upward movement of the plate against the spring, the spring being adjustable so that its resistance may be altered to prevent distortion of the cylinder or article under the pressure of plate 2. |
