PURPOSE:To eliminate the transmission loss of a joining part and to eliminate deterioration of transmission characteristics by adjusting plural optical fibers and one optical fiber to the best positions and rounding their joining surfaces by heating, and then welding them performing adjustment and heating when connecting the plural optical fibers to one optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:One optical fiber 1 is mounted and fixed in the V groove of a movable stage 61, an opposite optical fiber 2 to be connected is mounted and fixed on a fixed stage 62, and their positions are corrected while their end surfaces 10 and 20 are set at a slight distance from each other. Further, light from a light source 4 is detected by a sensor 5 so that it enters the optical fiber 1 equally through the optical fiber 2; and the movable stage 61 is moved to select the best point. Then, the end surfaces 10 and 20 are fused together by causing discharge between electrode rods 8 to round the tips in a specular surface stage having no fog, and their positions are adjusted again to make them abut on each other, thereby welding the tips together by discharging. Thus, the optical fibers are connected to form a connection part which has no transmission loss or no deterioration of transmission characteristics without interposing any material between the connected surfaces.
