PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for controlling a long object capable of suppressing loss of a first long object by matching the joint position of the first long object with the joint position of a second long object when the first and second long objects are bonded together. SOLUTION: A subtractor 16 calculates joint difference D between a base material joint distance (a) and a slip sheet glue position distance (b1+b2+rθ-b3), and a divider 17 divides the joint difference D by the circumferential length 2πr of a newly rolled roll 210 to find out a round number n. Then, a slip sheet motor speed command signal is generated to set the round number n to an integral value. Thereby, the joint of a base material 100 and the joint of a slip sheet 200 can be matched with each other in a slip sheet bonding device 301. Since bonded material 300 with both the joints matched with each other can be obtained, it is enough to discard around the matched joint, and the loss of the base material 100 can be suppressed.
