990,855. Folding paper; feeding webs. AVISUN CORPORATION. Feb. 28, 1964, No. 8433/64. Headings B6B and B6H. A former for folding a web longitudinally as the web is advanced over the sides and across a corner thereof, comprises a V- shaped frame formed from tubing having openings spaced along its length and extending substantially perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis, the arrangement being such that gas may be delivered through the openings to provide a layer of gas between the frame and the web travelling thereover, after which the gas may escape through openings in the interior of the frame. The V-shaped frame 21 is welded to a V-shaped plate 33 inclined to the horizon and has openings 79 spaced along its sides 53, 55. A plurality of openings are spaced around the apex 57 of the frame, Fig. 4 (not shown). An additional tube 59 is provided adjacent the upper edge of the folder frame. Two series of openings 73, 75 are provided in the tube which are inclined oppositely to the centre opening 71 whereby compressed air supplied to the tube tends to tension the web transversely. The folded web passes between guide tubes 63 which deflect the web to a take-up spool on a shaft 65. The guide tubes are perforated and supplied with compressed air to provide a cushion of air between the tubes and web. |
