1,035,310. Dyeing microporous polyurethane. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. Dec. 16, 1964 [Dec. 30,1963], No. 51229/64. Headings D1B and D1L. A process for dyeing microporous polyurethane sheet comprises wetting the sheet with water until its moisture content is 10-90% by weight; immersing the net sheet for 20-120 seconds in an aqueous solution of 0. 002-3% by weight of the solution of an acid dye which is capable of reacting or complexing with chromium or a mordant dye, the solution being at 180-212‹F. and pH 1.5-11; squeezing; immersing in an aqueous solution of 0.1-5% by weight of a chromium compound at 180-212‹F.; washing at 180-212‹F. and drying at 200-300‹F. A specific apparatus is illustrated for the continuous dyeing of said sheet material in which bath 1 contains hot water, bath 2 is the dyebath from which the sheet passes over a turnroll 3 into pressure controlled hip-rollers 4 and 4<SP>1</SP> at an angle a, which may be at least 5 degrees, bath 3 is the chroming solution and bath 4 the water rinse. The polyurethane materials may contain up to 50% polyvinyl chloride and the microporous polymer sheet may contain a porous fibrous substrate, e.g. of polyethylene terephthalate. A number of suitable dyes are tested and examples are given. |
