Binder for mortar, concrete or mouldings is water-soluble aldehyde resin (pref. phenolic type with formaldehyde: phenol molar ratio 1.4-2.0:1) and is used in amount is not >6% of total filler wt. - It can be used with damp or wet fillers and gives economies, since binder consumption is much lower than usual. Large batches of mix can be made without danger of setting in the mixer. - Initiator (e.g. p-toluene-sulphonic acid), hydrophobising agent (pref. Na methyl or ethyl siliconate), lubricant (e.g. paraffin oil) and demulsifier (e.g. petroleum) are pref. added. Filler (pref. quartz sand) may contain up to 10% water.
