An energy converter (10), which is connected to the supply connections of the preamplifier (9), is connected to the excitation current line (4) in order to supply energy to the preamplifier (9) of a magnetic-inductive flowmeter whose magnetic coils (3) are excited by an alternating current or by a switched direct current. Transformers, electrooptic transducers, electrothermal transducers or converter circuits are possible types of energy converter. Energy stores are used for smoothing in the case of pulsating energy conversion. <IMAGE>
