PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the image display device correcting distortion, especially distortion asymmetrical with respect to a center of an image. SOLUTION: In the image display device with an image display element 8 and an eyepiece optical system 42 having an optical face rotation asymmetry and an optical face with power arranged with eccentricity, an angleθ1 between a ray emitted from an optional point 44 on the image display element 8 and passing through a center of an emission pupil 40 and a straight line tying a visual axis 41, that is, a center of the pupil of the observer and the center of a projected image of the image display element 8 and an angleθ2 between the visual axis 41 and the ray emitted from a point 45 symmetrical to an optional point 44 with respect to a center 43 of the image of the image display element 8 as a symmetry point an passing through the center of the emission pupil 40 satisfy equation of|tanθ1 -tanθ2|/tanθ1 <0.1.
