PURPOSE:To obtain a tempo controller with which a music performance can smoothly follow during tapping, by providing a tapping means, a means for detecting a shift value of a music time during tapping, a means for detecting a density of notes, a means for updating a music time, and a means for outputting tempo clock data. CONSTITUTION:A music time for storing rhythm which the play aims at is estimated during tapping, and a tempo and a shift of tempo is calculated (expression 1). Then, a shift of the music time is calculated with the use of expression 11, and an initial elimination module for a time shift is carried out. Data is cut out during the time CurPos-GessPos and the time GessPos + Beat. Then, the number of sounds and a value for eliminating the shift of tempo are obtained, and the time shift is updated (expression 111). Further, there is carried out such an operation that the time shift from the time when a tap switch is turned on and the tempo shift are gradually eliminated (expression IV). Further, with timer interrupt for ever Nmsec, MIDI data F8 is outputted for counting up performance data memory.
