The present invention provides methods and compositions for the stimulation of immune responses. Specifically, the present invention provides immunogenic compositions and methods of using the same to induce immune responses (e.g., immunity (e.g., protective immunity)) against Hepatitis B virus (HBV)). Compositions and methods of the present invention find use in, among other things, clinical (e.g. therapeutic and preventative medicine (e.g., vaccination)) and research applications.

A method of inducing an immune response to hepatitis B virus (HBV) in a subject comprising intranasally administering to the subject an immunogenic composition comprising an effective amount of an adjuvant and an effective amount of isolated HBV surface antigen (HBsAg), wherein said adjuvant is a nanoemulsion that consists of water, oil, alcohol, a polysorbate surfactant and cetylpyridinium chloride, and wherein said immune response comprises generation of a HBV-specific humoral immune response comprising a HBV specific IgG antibody titer of at least 1,000 mIU/ml five weeks post administering said immunogenic composition.
