<p>A composition suitable for combatting moulds on living plants comprises a triphenyl tin compound of formula [(C6H5)3Sn] . . . X where n = 1 or 2, and X denotes a univalent or divalent acid radical or maybe a hydroxyl group when n = 1 or oxygen when n = 2 and an amount of an organic or inorganic basic substance such that a suspension of the composition, which suspension contains 0,3% by weight of the triphenyl tin compound, has a pH exceeding 7. Specified triphenyl tin compounds are the chloride, bromide sulphate, acetate, propionate, benzoate, sulphide, disulphide, borate, oxalate, succinate, phthalate, p-toluene sulphonate and bis (triphenyl tin) ethylene bis dithiocarbamate &c. Specified bases are the hydroxides, bicarbonates and carbonates of sodium and potassium, barium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, ammonium hydroxide, aniline, morpholine, hexamethylene tetramine and triethanolamine and salts and salt mixtures showing buffer action, e.g. borax, a mixture of borax and boric acid or a mixture of sodium carbonate and bicarbonate. The compositions may contain hydrophilic organic substances capable of producing colloidal solutions in water, e.g. gelatine, albumin, lactalbumin, glutenin, casein, ureacaseinate, starch, gum-arabic, pectin, sodium pectinate, agar-agar, alginate, tragacanth, carboxymethylcellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyethylene glycol, partially-hydrolysed gelatine and cold-water starch. The compositions may also contain solid or liquid carriers, e.g. ketones, such as acetone, alcohols, such as methanol, glycols, china clay, aluminium silicate and dimethyl formamide surface-active agents, dispersing agents or adhesive and may be in the form of dusts, wettable powders, liquid concentrates, emulsions or suspensions.</p> |
