The supports in particular for ceramic wire in quick firing ceramic kilns are designed so, that the heat exchange capacity of their surfaces in relation to their heat capacity increase along the length opposite to their direction of movement through the kiln. - This can be achieved by thickness variation, changing of surface profile and application of layers affecting the radiation absorbtion behaviour of the plates. - The method reduces the thermal gradients in support plates, set up in quick firing tunnel furnaces, resulting in breakages due to thermal causes.
