PURPOSE:To leave only a symbol by fixing an existing area of a symbol part, transferring the area to a buffer memory and then erasing a line connected to the symbol from the buffer memory. CONSTITUTION:A scanning quantizing means 1 scans a picture optically and the picture element and background are quantized to binary digit and stored in a storage device 2. A partial pattern separating means 3 fetches a partial pattern including the quantized pattern part of the symbol from the storage device 2 and transfers the fetched pattern to a buffer memory 5. The means 3 transfers also a fixed range to the buffer memory 5 around a point. The quantized pattern of the symbol is stored in the center of the buffer memory 5. Detecting and erasing means 6 for projected part detects the starting point and ending point of a projected part of the quantized pattern stored in the buffer memory 5 and erases the projected part. A controlling device 4 controls mutual order of the scanning quantizing device 1, the partial pattern separating means 3, the projection part detecting and erasing means 6, and the symbol recognizing means 8 through signal lines. |
