PURPOSE: To provide the hierarchical approximation method for graphic data which approximates a form with a sense of less incompatibility to an observer by extracting feature points where a human being strongly reacts on the form. CONSTITUTION: Original polygon data is inputted (S1), and inputted data is made into a general form by filter processing (S2), and the outline is extracted (S3). Angles of the outline are calculated (S4), and feature points are extracted in accordance with the result (S5). These processings S2 to S5 are executed repeatedly a number of times corresponding to a desired number of hierarchies having different precisions (S6). An approximated form is generated from extracted feature points and is defined as the form in each hierarchy. The hierarchy having a desired precision is selected in accordance with information of positions, sizes, movement speeds, and noticed points of the viewer on pictures of hierarchically approximated models generated by these processings, and the selected model is plotted as CG. |
